Ace fighter pilot Anastasia Seivers is offered a secret assignment to join a squadron taking the fight to Concorde's true enemies. But this squadron isn't part of the regular Concorde military, it is attached to the Legion Libertus, the independent force responsible for saving thousands of lives after the nuclear attack. After initial hope that her new commanders will be different, Seivers starts to suspect that they too are prejudiced against her.
Determined to remove the chip from Seivers' shoulder, Prefect Olivia Johnson, commander of the Legion, takes her on as pilot for a special mission.
The Prejudice is a novelette in the Two Democracies Revolution series.
Prejudice Two Democracies Revolution Book 2 eBook Alasdair Shaw
The intriguingly named 'The Perception of Prejudice' is an action-rich SF novelette with the focus on fighter combat. The writing is clean, effective and powerful, the characters engaging, and the story gripping. The taut opening flying scene has the ring of experience, and the story develops to a surprising degree within such a small frame. There is epic depth to even this small story because it is part of a much greater universe. The plot is very good and the pace measured perfectly, bringing the reader to a conclusion which is well timed but feels premature - precisely because one wants more! The good news is that more will indeed be forthcoming. This novelette is an interlude between the two full-length novels which form the first two books in the "Two Democracies" series. Liberty, the first full novel is available now, and 'Equality' is on the way.
Alasdair C. Shaw writes some of the finest SF it has been my pleasure to discover within the last two years, and I look forward to his next book.

Prejudice Two Democracies Revolution Book 2 eBook Alasdair Shaw Reviews
I enjoyed the new character. I hope the next time we find her it is not a short story but a nice long enjoyable read.
And the indie market continues to deliver sci fi I love.
Great world building and characters to enjoy. I'll place these next to my favorite Weber books any day of the week.
A fast read that appears to have been written in a hurry. Some spelling and grammar issues and some awkward passages, nothing major though. A good story with interesting characters and well worth the read. I enjoyed it very much.
This was a short companion to Liberty which I really liked. This was a good read. Both main characters were believable and the story flowed well. Read Liberty first, however, as the characters don't carry the story without previous knowledge of the background.
A juicy short from the Alasdair Shaw's Two Democracies series. It continues the solid world building in previous works and adds a new character to the mix. Two hour read with a novel's worth of plot and action,Shaw has honed his writing chops to our benefit. Recommended.
Before you pick up this one, please realize it is a continuation of Liberty (Two Democracies Revolution Book 1), so you need to read that one first or this one won’t make much sense to you.
While marketed as a novelette, this is really a teaser for the next book in the series with some flashbacks to the first book and brooding by some of the characters. If you’re looking for something new in the series, this one may be a disappointment to you as it was to me. I would give this one a pass due to the flashbacks of book one and I would expect anything new here being in the official book two.
Prejudice is a well-written novelette that bridges the first book in the series Liberty and the third book, Equality and sees the introduction of a new character to the series - Anastasia Seivers. Seivers is a pilot and has something of a chip on her shoulder that makes it difficult for her to engage in friendships with other people. She gets the opportunity to be attached to the Legion Libertus as a pilot and she soon finds herself at odds with everyone on the Orion (the name of a sentient AI and ship in the Legion Libertus). Great character development and action make this a great quick read and I am looking forward to beginning the next book in the series )
